Proverbs 27:1 says: “Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.”
Question: What does Cancer, CoVid, and a Car Accident have in common?
Answer: Tomorrow is not guaranteed… Not for you; Not for Me; Not for anyone.
These 3 things can change your life or the life of someone you love forever. These 3 things can be fatal, or they can be overcome. What if one of these things happened to you or someone you love? Do you know what the outcome would be? No, you don’t, Probably not. More often than not, you don’t know the outcome until you’ve gone through the trial, or tragedy.
What will happen if you or someone you love gets Cancer, CoVid, or gets into a car accident? What will you do? How will you respond? What will happen? The truth is you don’t know, nor will you, until you have to go through it.
That’s the point; That’s the lesson; You Don’t Know!
Sometimes there is no tomorrow for you or your loved one. It’s not a pleasant reality. It’s really hard to think about, to imagine, let alone experience. We’d rather fool ourselves into believing we have plenty of tomorrows. But sometimes, there is no tomorrow. Let that sink in. Sometimes…There is no tomorrow.
We all do it, we take time for granted, we assume we have plenty of days ahead,
to assume we can do that tomorrow… to:
Mail that card to our Aunt or Grandma
Have lunch with our dearest friend
Hug and hold our grand-baby
Kiss our spouse ‘good night’ and thank them for loving us everyday
Tell our grown children, “I’m so proud of you, I love you so much!”
We mistakenly believe we have more time… That there’s always more time…
But sometimes there’s not…more time.
In 2015 I was diagnosed with a rare form of Cancer and of course I freaked out because I thought, “Oh no, I’ve run out of time. How many more tomorrows do I have left?” But I’m still here in 2021, so thankfully, I received some more tomorrows. At least for now, I’ve been given more time. I am grateful for better health and a little more time. But it’s not guaranteed. It could change any day.
In March of 2020, my son got CoVid, and he got a very severe case, he too freaked out, and began a similar battle for his own life. Thankfully he survived CoVid. He too is grateful for more time.
Then in August 2020, as I was waking from a surgical procedure, my husband had to tell me that my daughter, Rachel, 25 yrs old, died in a car accident. Once again I freaked out. This time…no more time was given. My precious Rachel wasn’t given any more tomorrows here on earth. She died and went to heaven and her tomorrows are all there now, while we miss her terribly down here.
Sometimes, there is no tomorrow.
If there were no more tomorrows for you or your loved one, could you be okay with that?
Have you said all the things you need to say to them?
Do they know that you love them beyond a doubt?
How is your relationship with everyone you know?
Is there any unfinished business you should be taking care of?
Are there any harsh or unspoken words that need to be forgiven?
I have no regrets with my daughter, Rachel. Just before she passed away, we were rejoicing together over a newly expected baby. Rachel’s cousin, my niece, had just found out that she was expecting a baby girl and my daughter was ecstatic about hosting a baby shower for her, and she was teasing my about my age and soon becoming a “great-aunt”. We had just celebrated my birthday, just days before, Rachel had used her professional pastry skills to bake me a very special birthday cake in the form of a teapot. It was so pretty I didn’t want to eat it. We had a delightful dinner together with family, and I hugged her twice that night. Of course I didn’t know it would be the very last time I would ever hug her again. I didn’t know that dinner would be our last dinner together. Our last face to face.
I’m okay with that, because that day is now so precious to me. Can you say the same of today for you and your loved ones? If today was your last day, or theirs, would you have fond memories, or regrets? Would you be okay, if today was your last day bon earth, or theirs?
If not…begin living now… Today! as if… There is no tomorrow.
Don’t let today become a regret for you or your loved one tomorrow.
With no regrets, Susan
