One month before my daughter’s death, I was eavesdropping on a conversation my daughter, Rachel was having with her peers, that her husband, Ben did not hear. They were all discussing the future things they hoped to do. Their dreams, their desires; like the next baby they hoped to have, the first house they wanted to buy, or the promotion they were pursuing in their career.

Then it was Rachel’s turn to share.

“I wanted to marry a godly man, I married Ben, he’s a pastor, I love him so much. I wanted to have a son, and God gave us Aiden, and we adore him. We get to serve in ministry together to our youth, it’s fun. I love making wedding cakes and cookies and my business is doing well.” Then she paused… There was a long silence.

She did’t add anything else. Finally she said, “I’m Good!” She didn’t add to her list. Not even a simple thing like a vacation wish, ‘I’d like to go to Hawaii some day’. Rachel didn’t add anything more to her list. There was nothing more she wanted. That told me, in life, she was satisfied. Rachel loved her husband, Ben; their son, Aiden; and serving Christ. She had a full life and she was very happy.

That’s such a comfort to me every day that I live without her. As I remember Rachel, I also remember this verse:

Psalm 37:4
“Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” ESV My prayer for you today is that you come to know God as your LORD and Savior, and that you find satisfaction in life, in Him, just as my daughter did.

We do not know how many days we will have on this earth. Please, don’t waste yours,

Susan
